Have fake news become a part of our lives?

The aim of our workshop on the topic of Fake News was to recommend how to distinguish fake news from trustworthy ones. We looked at different types of fake news, for instance clickbait or propaganda. In addition, we explained the mechanism of creating and spreading fake news. Moreover, we emphasized the importance of verifying information. We prepared several activities for students, for example choosing which articles are trustworthy and which are not, and supporting their choice by arguments.

At the end, you will have the chance to make the models on your own and thus to see the practical usage of Chemistry in every day life.

Physics around us and beyond…

From time immemorial, they have been around us and accompanied us through our lives. If you guessed that we are talking about inventions and discoveries, you are right. Without inventions and discoveries, we would not be where we are and would not know what we already know. Nowadays, we can not live without electricity, we can not go anywhere without cars. But do we know how these inventions work, how they progress? Is each discovery better than the previous one? Will science and physics continue to advance? What invention or device can be considered faultless? If you are interested in the answers to these questions, we will try to figure them out together at the workshop.

Good news about AI, or not so good?

Together we will uncover the secret of what artificial intelligence is, how it actually works, how it learns, what possibilities it provides today. We will try to discuss how far we are from „SKYNET“. Finally, together we will teach artificial intelligence to recognize objects and/or people.

DNA Extraction

As part of the experimental part of the workshop, an experiment will be carried out during which DNA molecules are separated from onion cells. The extraction process is demonstrated. Theoretical part in the form of presentation and discussion focuses on DNA from the point of view of the possibility of changes in the sequence or molecular structure due to 5G.

FREEDOM IN ART

Our workshop explores the flexibility of art – its diversity as well as freedom of expression in it. We primarily focus on impressionism and its main representative, Vincent Van Gogh, then continue with expressionism with its rich history. Our peers will be encouraged to express themselves through creating pieces, either inspired by the art movements or the creativity of their minds.

Totalitarianism in Decline

The past was a very disturbing period, where many extremists tried their hand at power and quit often successfully. What is different now than it was in the past? Radicals are more often than not being defeated by rational and sane people, human rights are on the rise, military expansions are being curbed… It seems that the age of radical projects is being pushed aside by collective sanity. In this section we study various totalitarian regimes, with the reasons for their emergence, how they gained power, and how they were eventually dissolved.

Toponyms are present in our everyday lives, wherever we go, we encounter various kinds of place names, and they not only help us connect with destinations, but they convey significant information, which can reveal a lot about the people, the landscape, the life lived in particular historical eras and most importantly, the language spoken in various periods in history. Join us and find out about the hidden historical evidence of known places, which can only be found through the analysis of their toponyms.

WHY IS IT WORTH LIVING IN SLOVAKIA?

There are many reasons why it is worth living in Slovakia. – Slovakia’s central location in Europe allows an easy access by car, train or plane, and vice versa. Furthermore, Slovakia is renowed for its unique thermal springs as well as a low crime rate. Moreover, the cost of living in Slovakia is generally lower than in other Western European countries. The last but not least, UNESCO sites such as Banská Štiavnica and Vlkolínec, showcase a rich cultural heritage, drawing tourists and history enthusiasts worldwide.
